About BQA
Building quality from the ground up
A global alliance strengthening botanical supply chains, herb by herb, through science, transparent standards, sustainable economics and stronger connections.
About BQA
Advancing botanical quality
The Botanical Quality Alliance brings the global botanical supply chain together around science, accountability, and trust.
Our mission
Trust begins with quality
BQA is an industry-led initiative advancing botanical ingredient quality, safety, authenticity, traceability, and transparency across the global supply chain.
We connect suppliers, manufacturers, laboratories, researchers, and industry organizations to strengthen testing standards, combat adulteration and mislabeling, and support fair competition.
How we work
Collaboration with purpose
Our work turns shared expertise into practical guidance for a more reliable botanical marketplace.
By aligning science, supply-chain insight, and regulatory awareness, BQA helps members make informed decisions that protect consumers and strengthen confidence in herbal ingredients and dietary supplements.
Our community
Built by the industry
BQA is powered by people who understand that botanical quality is not a single checkpoint. It is a shared responsibility from source to shelf.
Our community brings together the perspectives needed to address complex challenges: ingredient identity, analytical methods, sourcing practices, documentation, and transparent communication.
When quality is visible, verifiable, and valued, the entire botanical sector moves forward.
Botanical Quality Alliance
Together, we are building a stronger foundation for innovation, regulatory compliance, and lasting consumer trust.

Purpose and mission
Whatever each herb needs
No two botanicals fail in the same place.
BQA diagnoses where a botanical supply chain is weakest and brings the standards, methods, safety evidence, labeling practices, economic tools, origin capacity and public communication needed to address the gap.
Strengthen botanical supply chains, herb by herb, by doing whatever each herb needs.
BQA Founding Charter
BQA convenes growers, processors, exporters, ingredient suppliers, brands, laboratories and scientists so the market and the public can trust botanical ingredients.
Our commitments
Principles for every herb
Evidence first
Positions rest on reviewed science, not marketing.
Agnostic and symmetric
Concerns apply equally across plant part, origin and supplier.
Verify, don’t accuse
Signals of risk prompt verification and dialogue, not blame.
Voluntary and open
Tools raise quality and are not used to exclude competitors.
Build on what exists
BQA partners with established standards, programs and regulators.
Independent process
Funding and affiliation do not buy technical conclusions or editorial control.
Governance and credibility
BQA is designed for balanced participation, independent review and clear boundaries.
Balanced governance
A Steering Committee brings representation from suppliers, brands, laboratories, scientists, growers and origin-country participants, with an independent Chair.
Scientific review
An independent Scientific Advisory Panel reviews safety statements, method reviews and public advisories before approval.
Affiliation with ASA
The Ashwagandha Standards Alliance may affiliate with BQA while keeping its own name, governance and positions. BQA does not take positions on ashwagandha.
Open collaboration
Working groups form after a published Herb Diagnostic and a defined commitment of participating members.

No price setting
BQA does not set or recommend prices. Members set their own prices and terms independently.
